Japanese coin collectors?
 

Anyone here collect Pre-Meiji Japanese coins? I just picked up some oval-shaped 100-mon coins. They're cheap and neat looking. I'd like to get some of the gold and silver square ingots someday (the 1 and 2 shu/bu). Also like the gold koban coins, but too much for me.

Heard of them, but have never seen them. Thanks for the pics Infidel.

Since I cannot read Japanese, I would not be guaranteed of getting silver. It may be another metal. Those pics do not look like silver.

If I could prove to my satisfaction there were silver, I would have a hard time selling them to someone else in my area.

These are coins I would not collect. Cool coins nonetheless.

The Great Ag, the 100 mon coins are either copper or brass. I'm a bullion man, but I have somewhat of a numismatic side when it comes to mercury dimes and Japanese coins.
